By Right Now Radio

In our first podcast for 2013, Ben Schokman and Rachel Ball reflect on the first few months of the year for human rights, including the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Bill, recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia’s First Peoples, human rights in Sri Lanka and Australia’s position, and funding cuts to Legal Aid. Our guests for the program are Serena Lilywhite from Oxfam Australia to talk about business and human rights (and taxation!), and we catch up with Anna Brown on the No To Homophobia campaign and the role that sport plays in promoting human rights.

Blackout (poem)

By Bänoo Zan

Bänoo Zan’s poem was written in the aftermath of countrywide protests against sudden steep rise in fuel price in Iran on November 15. Authorities shot down the Internet of the whole country and embarked on a horrific killing spree. Amnesty International has so far verified 208 deaths in less than a week.
