Right Now Radio – Special Interview With Catherine Simmonds

Two women, back to back

“I think we have to be very aware about where we’re heading, what our youth are thinking about, what we’re talking about, rather than consuming it without thought”

Anna Dorevitch talks to Catherine Simmonds, the Artistic Director of “In Bed with the Elephant in the Room” – a collaboration between Platform Youth Theatre and Project Respect that explores the impact of the pornography and sex industries on society.  Developed with sex workers, victims of trafficking, men and youth, this brave theatre project asks questions about the culture and cost of these industries.  A post-performance forum discussing the intersection between art and activism in this area will be held on 19 November 2013 at 7 pm at the Mechanics Institute, 270 Sydney Rd Brunswick.  Tune in for details!

Blackout (poem)

Bänoo Zan’s poem was written in the aftermath of countrywide protests against sudden steep rise in fuel price in Iran on November 15. Authorities shot down the Internet of the whole country and embarked on a horrific killing spree. Amnesty International has so far verified 208 deaths in less than a week.
